Facing chronic illness or a terminal diagnosis for yourself or a loved one is the hardest, most challenging, emotional time of life.
There is no right or wrong way to feel in these situations. You may feel a wide range of emotions. It is normal to feel:
Shock
Disbelief
Anger
Numb
Worried
Afraid
Sad
Frustrated
Helpless
Denial
Acceptance
Relief
You may not feel all of these emotions or any of them and that is ok too.
You may not feel all of these emotions. You may not feel any of them, and this is OK too...
Knowing what to do or how to be with yourself and your family can completely escape you. You may feel like you do not want to talk about it and you may be unsure of what to even say. Sometimes people feel alone or isolated and uncertain about who can help.
No matter what you are feeling, it can be helpful to have a therapist to turn to. Having an advocate to help you process the difficult emotions you are experiencing and navigate the systems (medical care, care-giving support, skilled nursing care, assisted living) you are involved in can provide relief and support.
A few details about my background and specialty
I have a background in medical social work and have spent years assisting clients and their families at all stages of illness, including Hospice care. I have a special place in my heart for this type of therapeutic engagement. I would be honored to assist you and your loved ones during these difficult and uncertain times.
Therapy does not have to be a long drawn out process...
Therapy has a reputation for being a long drawn out process, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are many different approaches to therapy and each client is unique. We can address your specific and unique needs and desires.
I draw from a multitude of therapeutic modalities including but not limited to, mindfulness for pain management and stress reduction, short term solution focused and dignity therapy. Even with these different approaches, it may be necessary to focus on more pragmatic solutions.
Sometimes people just need support knowing how to get connected with resources that can help them...
I specialize in systems navigation as I understand the medical community very well. I have worked with many physicians, our local hospitals, outpatient services, insurance companies and special care teams. I have special training in systems navigation and I can provide care coordination services or work independently with you.
It is always your choice. I invite you to call me today for a free 10 minute consultation.
